Donald Van Royen
Senior Mechanical Engineer

Donald is the only engineer at Bresslergroup who has worked above the stratosphere.

He contributed to several aspects of the Space Shuttle Endeavor — designing its carbon dioxide removal system has been his favorite project to date in a 30-plus year career. Lured by the mystery of the problem and the adventure of solving, he knew he wanted to be an engineer after his first high school physics class.

Donald earned his BSME from the University of Hartford. After working on the International Space Station, the U.S. Shuttle program, and military submarines, he went on to contribute to and lead medical and consumer projects for clients including Ciba Vision, OXO, Becton-Dickinson, and Stryker for 25 years.

His diverse experience in projects, industries, clients, and environments informs his work at Bresslergroup, where he helps clients largely with concept ideation. He is always focused on the solution. Now, if he can only find the solution to improving at shuffleboard.

The bicycle, for its simplicity and its ability to transform a slow moving person into a faster, farther traveling individual with no additional fuel source. If you could redesign anything, what would it be? Cities. What are you most curious about? People.
