New Moviecle kiosk offers airport travelers fast downloadable movies, and more

Philadelphia, PA – December 3, 2008 – Bresslergroup, an award winning new product development firm, has teamed with Fadow, a Toronto-based technology company, to design a new amenity for airport travelers. Moviecle, a striking, bright green, free-standing kiosk, offers movies, entertainment and information downloads through a proprietary Wi-Fi network of kiosks at airports. Moviecle has just been rolled out at Boston’s Logan airport.

In addition to movies, Moviecle offers GPS software, maps, travel guides, TV-shows, music and games to be watched during waiting times or flights. Travelers spend an average of 93 minutes waiting around at airports for their flights. A typical feature film downloads in about two minutes, vs. more than an hour over Wi-Fi. That’s a Fast Download.

The Moviecle kiosk is part entertainment vending machine, part electronic billboard. Fadow generates revenues from content rental and advertisers. So the device was designed to call attention to advertising while communicating to consumers the ability to access great content. Two massive, high definition LCD panels deliver high quality advertising while the sculptural form of the Moviecle draws customers to the touchscreen interface panels (one on either side for ease of access) for fast download of movies and other content. Moviecle is designed for adaptability and usability, and is fully ADA compliant, accommodating users in wheel chairs as easily as a 6’ -2” man.

Bresslergroup’s interface design team also worked with Fadow to design a highly responsive user experience for downloading content. “There were two tiers of interface design challenges.” explains Rob Tannen, PhD, Bresslergroup’s Director of Research. “As a new service, the Moviecle kiosk needs to instruct novice users about the content offerings and workflow, while providing one-step download capabilities to experienced customers.”

“The second challenge was developing a consistent user experience between the Moviecle kiosk and the web site which is accessed for enrollment. The iconography, vocabulary and even the task sequences were designed to provide a familiar experience regardless of which interface the customer initially uses.”

Bresslergroup’s field research identified reasonable thresholds among airport travelers for download times as well as concerns about technology security and privacy. Passengers can download onto USB thumb drives and later upload to their laptop or other playback device.

Fadow plans a broad rollout for Moviecle in US airports in 2009, meeting the needs of increasingly wired global travelers and advertisers eager to reach them.
