Metrologic identified a need for a new omni directional barcode scanner for retail applications. They were also searching for a new more distinctive product identity. And they needed it fast. The Orbit's triangular base and ball scan head made the device easy to pick up and place where the checkout person felt most comfortable and the resulting form created a distinctive look.
