Metrologic Orbit Barcode Scanner
Bresslergroup started the process with competitive analysis
and store visits to understand human factors requirements and
how competitive products were used and viewed by actual store
personnel. Research suggested that store clerks would benefit
from a barcode scanner that was easy to place anywhere in their
workspace and was easy to either pass goods in front of or pick
up to scan larger items.
Imagine
Analysis of the research effort led to the development of the
round head, sized just right for a full range of users. The
base is also very stable which allows placement where the user
wants versus where the installer chooses. And the overall form
of the device with soft curves and pet like appearance resulted
in a product that was very approachable, even inviting.
Implement
We worked closely and quickly with Metrologic's electronics team
to understand packaging, assembly and service requirements.
Then we implemented the chosen concept using Pro/E. The resulting
casework files were sent to their Asian production partner
for tooling and production.
Impact
The entire process from research through first production parts
took less than 6 months which helped Metrologic launch Orbit
in advance of plan. The next eighteen months brought record
sales and led to the introduction of several other scanners
designed in the same collaborative fashion, thus rebranding
their product line. |
