Bresslergroup Glyph

The Glyph is a proprietary concept generated as the result of a design research survey conducted in the home office market space. This design research survey identified the overwhelming space taken up on the desk top by computers and peripherals, and a user’s desire to have a more space saving design solution.

Imagine
The innovative design solution combines a flat screen monitor with an inkjet printer and single line scanner. This combination of functionality in a small package directly addressed user desires as identified by our design research survey. The paper feed function for the printer works for the scanner as well. A unique 45 degree mounting form factor for the ink cartridges enables gravity to feed the ink properly while the heads run vertically. The aesthetic design is an effort to generate a unique design language that creates a biomorphic presence on the desk top. Our design research survey also pointed out that home office users were looking for more personality and a more stylized design.

Implement
The final model was created at Bresslergroup facilities as a combination of SLA and hand sculpted parts. We also used the concept to enter into design and design research competitions and have been issued design patents for the original execution.

Impact
To date, several computer peripheral manufacturers have entertained a licensing relationship. The design speaks to the needs of small and home office users and through our design research survey we found that the device would be a particularly good fit for college students living in cramped dorms.
