IBM Handheld PC

Bresslergroup works very well in support of internal product design organizations and this project with IBM was no exception. IBM started with a very detailed product marketing definition and developed the internal electronics. We worked with their product marketing definition and turned that definition into the industrial design solution for this pocket sized computer that provided the capability and marketing possibilities of a desktop. When docked with the appropriate peripherals, this product functions as a full desktop computer.

Imagine
Bresslergroup's challenge was to develop the functional and assembly aspects of this highly miniaturized design while maintaining the definition of IBM marketing's visual brand identity. To this purpose, we provided multiple concept resolutions, all of which were appropriate to the product marketing definition developed by the team.

Implement
We implemented the selected product design through constant conference calls and internet document sharing with the IBM product marketing team. We were also responsible for executing the design development in 3D CAD, prototype sourcing, prototyping, debugging and commissioning of a 100 unit sample production run. The IBM product marketing team then assembled the units for product trials.

Impact
Shortly after delivering the 100 prototypes, IBM successfully licensed the product to Antelope Networks, a Colorado based marketing company of specialty computers. The design was very well accepted and held true to the original product marketing definition. This kind of focus requires discipline and close collaboration with the product marketing team.
