Designed specifically for sale at Lowes, this award winning consumer product design needed to be feature rich but also cost competitive. And though it was assigned as a simple consumer product design project, our user research investigations uncovered the opportunity to add safety and convenience features.

Imagine
As part of the integrated product design process, the Bg / B&D firms, working together in Towson, Maryland, developed a new safety switch that can be turned off with the user's knee in emergencies, and a protruding angled miter gauge that makes reading the gauge easier. The new extruded aluminum legs look better than traditional angle iron and reduce shipping weight, and the attachment system cut assembly time in half.

Implement
Bresslergroup and Black and Decker's internal consumer product design firm shared responsibility for concurrently developing the detailed design documentation required by their offshore manufacturer.

Impact
This award winning consumer product design won both an Industrial Design Excellence Award and an Appliance Magazine Award. The table saw is selling well through mass market channels.
