Sensorpad Systems IsoPad PT Device

Bresslergroup ensured that physical therapists and users weighed in early in the design process and throughout including clinical trials. What we learned drove the development of the physical and digital interface. More than anything else, users and therapists wanted a device that was simple to set up and use, and which actually encouraged users to do their exercises between physical therapy sessions.

Imagine
Based on research results, our goal was to create a game like experience for the user. So we pursued a sporty look through soft forms and elastomeric buttons. Physical controls were simplified to include a pause and go button while simple on screen instructions step the user through each exercise.

Implement
Research, design, mechanical and electrical engineering were handled concurrently by the Bresslergroup team. We used Pro/E as our primary engineering tool and moved quickly toward development of multiple cast prototypes for phase 1 clinical trial. We then moved quickly into production after minor modifications based on feedback from users.

Impact
Clinical trial results showed improved mobility and decreased pain among participants and next phase trials are in the works. Participants were also reluctant to give the devices back which showed that we succeeded in developing a system that was actually enjoyable to use.
