Opex 100 Mailsorter
The new product development challenge was to reduce the manpower and procedures required to operate a 30 foot long mail sorting machine. Research included observation at several mail processing facilities in New Jersey and beyond and creation of a simulation mockup for our new product development team to study the existing procedure.
Imagine
In depth human factors and work process investigations done by our product development firm revealed the ability to fold the procedure in two to enable input and output functions at the same end of the machine. The unique visual vocabulary emerged from our product designers' modular panel concept which also proved very affordable to manufacture in limited quantity.
Implement
Our role in the new product development procedure includes support through engineering. The new configuration was then detailed for production in CAD. We made final materials recommendations, and supported new procedures for manufacturing and assembly.
Impact
The enclosure design for the 100 set a brand image for Opex that has been maintained through their growth from a garage shop to one of New Jersey's largest independently owned manufacturers. This was the first of 16 new product development procedures Bresslergroup worked on with the Opex. It won an IDEA Award.
