Langston Saturn V Box Processor
The Saturn V is a corrugated cardboard printer, scorer and folder
machine. It is 15 feet wide and 50 feet long made up of sliding
modules that provide materials handling controls and access to
each discrete in-line function. Bresslergroup's research team
conducted observational studies and one on one interviews on
site with operators to learn how earlier models might be improved
upon in terms of ease of use and workplace safety. We also performed
extensive human factors study related to the loading and unloading
of raw material and finished product.
Imagine
Bresslergroup developed a chopper-gun lay-up fiberglass enclosure
model that was re-usable for every function module. The enclosure
provided sound attenuation, cable routing safety guarding and
a uniform aesthetic. Load and unload access points were also
positioned and designed to reduce the likelihood of back strain.
Implement
The project team developed full scale mock-ups and resolved mounting
assembly and service access details. We also developed documentation
for vendor support and manufacturing.
Impact
This project received an Industrial Design Excellence Award.
The Saturn V created the visual brand identity for a full line
of 5 materials handling machines designed by Langston and Bresslergroup.
The systems were very competitive on the international capital
machinery market.
