Kinematic Analysis
At Bresslergroup we use several different software solutions to solve kinematics problems., (mechanisms, assemblies, or anything with moving parts). Both ProEngineer and Solidworks provide kinematics capabilities which allow the analysis to remain in its native CAD format.
Our engineering team is well trained on both platforms and has utilized the kinematics tools in both Pro/E and SolidWorks. We’ve invested in training our personnel in kinematics and many other analysis methodologies. Collectively we have decades of kinematics expertise in house.
Pictured on this page is part of a model we used to perform kinematics analysis on a spa cover lifter. This device was very complex and very powerful. The kinematics modules allow you to simulate the motion early – allowing it to be adjusted and fine tuned. We also used many other tools to optimize parts and assemblies along the way but kinematics analysis proved invaluable while designing and then refining the many linkages and interaction points in this complex mechanism
As you dig into this form of kinematics simulation the benefits become both self evident and extremely powerful. The tools enable the designer or engineer to constrain parts in the exact way they will be constrained in the finished product. Right off the bat this enables kinematics motion envelopes, interference checking and trace curves, but beyond the physical fits you can also determine position, velocity and acceleration quickly and easily using these kinematics analysis tools.
Once built these kinematics models enable iterative optimization of complex multi variable problems in a fraction of the time of a guess and test approach with physical parts.
Another example where we used kinematics analysis involved the development of a deployable screen for a betting terminal. In this case the kinematics model was used to create and verify the motion path, check for fits and clearances, and to define a keep out zone for the other fixed components. Any time moving parts are part of a product a kinematics package should be used to optimize the design. Without it you are simply taking a best guess and hoping for the best. With it you can essentially create a virtual prototype and begin to uncover problems and opportunities long before parts are available. Kinematics analysis shortens time to market, helps to improve and optimize designs, and helps to eliminate embarrassing interferences and costly delays. We use kinematics every day in providing successful mechanical solutions.
