Ideation

The team quickly determined that a “one size fits all” approach to the handle development would not provide sufficient user comfort and utility. Brainstorming yielded a range of unique and demonstrable features to explore, while the industrial design team set to work developing a broad range of handle options in 3D mockup form. Many hours were spent massaging the forms so that they worked visually as a family across four tool types, while still providing comfort and utility for each distinct tool. Renderings were created in parallel to present color and product branding recommendations. Working as a team with Cutco, we narrowed the range of options down to two directions for testing and refinement.
