Production
In the end the project was pulled off on time, on budget and
resulted in extremely strong sales for Cutco. The scoop ranked
number 8 in volume for Fall 2002 out of 360 products – one
of their best product introductions ever. The scoop and knife
were also introduced as components in three new gift sets. Sales
from the ice cream scoop and cheese knife as open stock products
and gift sets are so far over $6,000,000. The Cheese Knife was
the second best selling product in Cutco’s fall catalog
- which shows 95% of their products. The Ice Cream Scoop was
#8 - so both were in the top 10 out of approximately 360 products/set
combinations. Their Entertainer Pack which includes the cheese
knife and ice cream scoop, as well as Cutco’s
existing Vegetable Peeler and Pizza Cutter sold three times more
units in 6 months than they projected for an entire year. It
retails for $119 which is usually a bit above most people's threshold
for gifts. It was their third best selling gift box set (out
of 19 gift box sets) and would have been #1 if it were out for
the full year.
