FINDER is a near-patient testing platform that maximizes the diagnostic yield from a small sample to provide a comprehensive evaluation of neonatal and pediatric patients, especially those undergoing intensive care. Powered by digital microfluidics technology, its intuitive workflow and small footprint makes critical blood screening for infants available to more healthcare providers, with results in hours, not days.
Nearly 10% of all babies born are admitted to the NICU, where they’re evaluated using tests intended for adults, requiring large sample volumes. Baebies recognized this unmet need in neonatal diagnostics for tests requiring low-blood volume with faster turnaround time.
Bresslergroup applied research, prototyping, and testing to achieve FINDER’s fully integrated digital-physical design. Because the device is portable and the disposable cartridge is self-contained, tests can be performed near the patient. Shifting a lab procedure to non-lab environments demanded an approachable device with a more intuitive workflow. The innovative toaster-sized instrument features a simple workflow with an easy-to-use tablet interface that guides the user through the needed steps.
MDEA winners will be announced on Thursday, May 13, during the virtual Medtech Design Summit 2021.
The Medical Design Excellence Awards competition is the medical technology industry’s premier awards program. Since 1998, the MDEAs have recognized achievements in medical product design and engineering that improve the quality of healthcare delivery and accessibility.
