Bresslergroup was excited to partner for a third year with Jefferson University’s JeffSolves MedTech program, run by Dr. Bon Ku and Dr. Robert Pugliese, co-founders of Jefferson’s Health Design Lab.
“It’s refreshing to engage with students,” says Pat Brandon, Principal Mechanical Engineer at Bresslergroup, “and to help guide them through the product development process. In many cases it’s the first time they’ve done anything like this, so our mentorship is really appreciated.”
Brandon was one of five at Bresslergroup to work throughout the year with the nineteen medicine and design students who went through JeffSolves’ eight-month program. He, along with Senior Account Strategist, Tom Dooley; Senior Industrial Designer, Justin Bechstein; Mechanical Engineering Manager, Jeremy Ridley; and Project Manager, Trisha Eckard, led the multidisciplinary cohort through the process of defining and then solving a medical device design challenge with a commercially-viable physical product solution.
The 2021 JeffSolves MedTech program culminated this month with a virtual Pitch Session on October 13, as part of DesignPhiladelphia. (A previous year’s pitch session is pictured, above.) The four teams presented their products to faculty members, peers, and the public. Previous JeffSolves cohorts have designed a car seat for children in hip spica casts; a system to prevent IV infections; a breast pump sanitizer and dryer; sound-dampening headband for infants with neonatal abstinence syndrome; and a disposable device for scavenging waste anesthetic gases.
Bresslergroup is proud to collaborate with Thomas Jefferson University on the JeffSolves MedTech program and to support DesignPhiladelphia, Philly’s annual festival produced by the Center for Architecture and Design. Bresslergroup is a 2021 sponsor of DesignPhiladelphia, which celebrates and communicates Philadelphia’s standing as a design city and as a hub for design excellence.
