Along with our client, HelmetFit, Bresslergroup is pleased to announce our Second Place win in the 2019 dmi:Design Value Awards for our work on HelmetFit: A Digital/Physical Innovation To Improve Helmet Safety.
Bresslergroup and Helmetfit were among thirteen winners announced at the 2019 dmi:Design Value Awards Dinner Ceremony, held during the DMI (Design Management Institute) Design Leadership Conference, in Boston. According to DMI, the awards recognize “teams who have delivered significant value through design or design management practices.” The winners are “exemplars in their fields, a distinguished list of international organizations that include non-profit agencies, government entities, large multinationals, and regional enterprises.”
“Our experience working with Mike Weatherby and HelmetFit is a good example of the exciting project journeys we take with and for our clients,” says Mathieu Turpault, Managing Partner and Director of Design, pictured above, receiving the award from DMI Board Chair, Kevin Bethune, and DMI president, Carole Bilson. “We were able to leverage rapid prototyping and rapid insight testing to evolve the product experience with end-users’ input while introducing lots of clever innovative solutions. It was a true synergy of multiple disciplines, including user research, industrial design, interaction design, and mechanical and electrical engineering. Our talented staff can truly give their best when clients come to us with a clear vision to solve real meaningful problems, and a mission to make the world a better place.”
Says DMI President, Carole Bilson, “On behalf of the global DMI community, I congratulate the team at Bresslergroup for winning a 2nd place 2019 dmi:Design Value Award for HelmetFit, an innovative approach to football helmet safety that’s having a positive impact on the health of over 100 teams in youth, college, and professional football. The project was judged against a broad field of global competitors and our judges, industry-leading design and innovation experts, found the project exemplary of the value of extensive Design Research, Design Management, and Design Innovation practices.
This is the third time that Bresslergroup has won a dmi:Design Value Award — a clear indication that their innovative solutions are based in rigorous Design Management methodologies and deliver not only financial gains, but create social impact, show environmental stewardship, and have powerful results on organizational culture. Again, congratulations to Bresslergroup for winning a coveted dmi:Design Value Award!”
About the winning project: HelmetFit is a patented football helmet inflation system that locates and automatically recaptures a custom fit for each player. With an app-controlled handheld electric pump, it eliminates the guesswork of the helmet inflation process and establishes a custom fit for every player.
The solution has two components — an electric pump held in one hand (a mobile device clips into it) and an app — that communicate via Bluetooth. Once the parameters of a player’s initial fitting is saved to the app, that data is stored in the cloud to make subsequent fittings faster.
