Bresslergroup sponsored and hosted PhillyCHI’s World Usability Day 2020 virtual event on Wednesday, November 18th.
World Usability Day (WUD) is a global happening that aims to bring communities around the world together to learn how to make services and products easier to access and simpler to use.
WUD’s 2020 theme, Human-Centered AI, encourages designers and researchers to “seek to explore design systems that are both highly automated and allow a great degree of user control and will result in to expand human capabilities 1000-fold. If we can design AI which is ‘reliable, trusted, and safe,’ we can dramatically enhance human performance in the coming decade.”
PhillyCHI‘s World Usability Day event took place from 6:30pm – 8:00pm, on Wednesday, November 18th, with talks from Philadelphia practitioners about aspects of Human-Centered AI that are relevant to their work.
Christopher Kim, MD, Bresslergroup’s Director of Human Factors and Usability, addressed “AI Adoption in Healthcare.” While artificial intelligence has made a substantial impact in many medical fields, it hasn’t been adopted to the same degree across medicine. Chris discussed how the differing degrees of adoption relate directly to usability challenges for AI product developers, specifically in the fields of radiology, internal medicine, and surgical robotics. Read Chris’s blog post, AI in Medicine: Establishing Trust Through Usability, on the same topic.
Other speakers included Marli Mesibov, Lead Content Strategist at Verily Life Sciences, who presented on concrete tactics for developing unbiased AI. And Vinita Atre, UX Designer at Wonderlic, discussed the ideal product cycle for a UX Designer/Data Scientist collaboration to create ethical and beneficial AI.
